Your tooth extraction Journey: Step by Step

Single-Visit Extraction (1–2 Days)

Consultation and Imaging

01

Your dentist reviews your history, examines the tooth, and takes X-rays or a scan. You receive a simple plan that covers numbing, what you will feel, and how to care for the area after the visit.

Extraction and Closure

02

After local anesthesia, the tooth is gently loosened and removed. Stitches may be placed to protect the socket, and you bite on gauze to start clotting. You leave with written instructions.

Post-Op Care and Travel Clearance

03

The team checks bleeding control and comfort, then confirms safe timing for border travel. You learn about rest, cold packs, and medications your dentist prescribes.

Healing Phase at Home (1–2 Weeks)

04

Keep the area clean with saltwater rinses after the first day, avoid smoking, and skip straws to protect the clot. Soft foods help while tenderness fades.

My husband and I have had over the past week dental work done at this office. We are very pleased with the work we had done, Crowns and Root canal also 2 Extractions.

The dentists and office workers are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have high tech equipment and it has been a great choice as we only went by reviews to locate a dentist to have our dental work done. I

They have great customer service, really helped me by speaking with me one on one about the procedures I was having and made it more comfortable for me because I do have fear of dental work

.
So we will be back for future dental work we will need.

I was a bit nervous to get dental work done in Mexico (as I'm sure many people are the first time), but it turned out to be a good experience.

I had two root canals, an extraction, a crown and a bridge. They were able to save a tooth that I was sure needed to be extracted. The dentists were great, they made sure I was never in pain. They were able to give me something to help my anxiety as well.

Everyone was nice and spoke great English. They have a nice waiting area in the back/middle of the building. Definitely coming back the next time I need major dental work done.

One tip: as you're walking through town to get here, just ignore the peddlers. There's a lot of them. Walk past them, don't engage them.

Comprehensive FAQ about tooth extraction

Are tooth extractions painful?

With local anesthesia you should feel pressure, not pain. You may have soreness for 24 to 72 hours, which improves with prescribed medication, cold packs, and rest. Clinics in Tijuana give clear instructions so you stay comfortable at home.

What’s the difference between simple and surgical extractions?

A simple extraction removes a visible tooth using gentle loosening. A surgical extraction is used when a tooth is broken or impacted, and may include a small gum opening or bone smoothing. Your Tijuana dentist will choose the method after X-rays or a 3-D scan.

How do I prevent dry socket?

Do not smoke, do not use straws, and avoid forceful spitting for several days so the blood clot stays in place. Keep your head elevated, use gauze as directed, and start saltwater rinses the day after surgery. Tijuana teams provide a short checklist to follow.

How long does recovery take?

Initial tenderness usually settles within two to three days. Gum tissue commonly heals in 7 to 14 days, and bone continues to remodel over the next few weeks. Good home care and follow-up messages with your Tijuana dentist help you heal on schedule.

Can I eat normally after extraction?

Start with cool, soft foods once bleeding has stopped and numbness fades. Avoid hard, hot, or spicy foods for the first day and chew on the opposite side. Add regular foods slowly as comfort returns.
