Why Get a tooth extraction in Mexico?

Mexico combines highly trained oral surgeonsstate-of-the-art clinics, and competitive pricing, ensuring you receive U.S.-standard care for a fraction of the cost. Clinics use digital X-rays and 3-D imaging to plan every extraction precisely, minimizing trauma and accelerating healing.

Border towns make your trip seamless. Los Algodones, known as “Molar City,” hosts over 300 dental offices within a few blocks. Park in Arizona, cross on foot, and be in the chair within minutes. Tijuana offers a modern medical district just south of San Diego with private shuttles and hotel packages. Both destinations let you schedule treatment, enjoy local hospitality, and return home the same day.

Your tooth extraction Journey: Step by Step

Single-Visit Extraction (1–2 Days)

Consultation and Imaging

01

Your surgeon reviews your medical history, examines the planned extraction site, and takes digital X-rays or a CBCT scan to map tooth roots and surrounding structures.

Extraction and Closure

02

Under local anesthesia or chosen sedation, the surgeon gently loosens and removes the tooth. For surgical cases, small incisions and bone contouring may be required. The site is cleaned, sutured if needed, and a sterile dressing is placed.

Post-Op Care and Travel Clearance

03

You receive detailed instructions on pain management, diet, and oral hygiene. After a next-day check for stable clot formation, you’re cleared to travel home with a care kit and direct lines to your surgeon for questions.

Healing Phase at Home (1–2 Weeks)

04

Your gums heal over one to two weeks. Medify’s advisors conduct video calls during this period to monitor your recovery, answer questions, and arrange any follow-up for implants or restorations.

It's been a month now since I went with my son to get a bunch of work done. I was there for emotional support, but he needed a deep cleaning, 8 crowns, 4 fillings and 2 extractions.

Once we got to Algodones, we met the staff and more importantly, customers from all over the U.S. who were there, who said they were returning for the 4th or 5th or 6th visit. Multi-year customers who were very satisfied. After seeing the care and patience they took with my son (who is about as dental-phobic as one can be) I can see why people keep going back there.

They did a great job and I would go back there if/when I need major dental work.

As an added bonus, we stopped at a pharmacy and got a years worth of asthma medicine for my wife at a fraction of the cost here in the states.

I was a bit nervous to get dental work done in Mexico (as I'm sure many people are the first time), but it turned out to be a good experience.

I had two root canals, an extraction, a crown and a bridge. They were able to save a tooth that I was sure needed to be extracted. The dentists were great, they made sure I was never in pain. They were able to give me something to help my anxiety as well.

Everyone was nice and spoke great English. They have a nice waiting area in the back/middle of the building. Definitely coming back the next time I need major dental work done.

One tip: as you're walking through town to get here, just ignore the peddlers. There's a lot of them. Walk past them, don't engage them.

Comprehensive FAQ about tooth extraction

Are tooth extractions painful?

No, local anesthesia and optional sedation ensure a pain-free procedure. You may feel pressure, but no sharp pain.

What’s the difference between simple and surgical extractions?

Simple extractions remove visible teeth. Surgical extractions involve impacted or broken teeth, requiring incisions and possible bone removal.

How do I prevent dry socket?

Follow instructions to avoid spitting, using straws, or smoking for at least 48 hours to protect the clot.

What if I have a medical condition?

Provide your full medical history. Surgeons will adjust anesthesia and precautions for conditions like diabetes or heart disease.

Will my insurance cover an extraction in Mexico?

Some U.S. plans reimburse out-of-network care. Medify clinics provide detailed invoices and X-rays for claims.

How long does recovery take?

Soft tissue usually heals in 1–2 weeks. Minor swelling and discomfort are normal for a few days.

Can I eat normally after extraction?

Stick to soft foods for 24–48 hours, then gradually reintroduce your regular diet as comfort allows.

When can I schedule an implant after extraction?

Many clinics allow immediate or delayed implant placement. Your surgeon will advise based on bone quality and healing.

Can I combine extraction with a vacation?

Yes, you can book a morning appointment and enjoy local attractions afterward. Most patients fly home within 2 days.

Is it safe to travel for a tooth extraction?

Medical districts maintain strict safety and transport protocols. You’ll receive travel clearance once your surgeon confirms stability.
